I’m doing a school project and we need ways to be green. I have to power a retirement community in Florida. I have 15 large condos, 3 beach houses, 3 restaurnats, a pool, gym, hot tub, sauna, grocery store, gas station, and several offices. They don’t have to power everything but I would like to be as green as possible. Also maybe other suggestions on good ways to go green.

How in the world does increased carbon dioxide (CO2) and other “green house” gases make the earth warm up?

I’ve never heard anyone answer this question. I’ve only heard them say, essentially, that there’s a correlation. I want to know how the mechanism works. Why and how does CO2 trap more heat than oxygen or some other gas? Otherwise, if global warming is only correlated with a rise in CO2, couldn’t you just as easily blame it on the existence of Al Gore? Since he’s been alive, the earth has warmed up quite a bit.
There seem to be a lot of other theories that make more sense intuitively. All the black top we lay down absorbs and retains heat. All the billions of machines, appliances, and devices that operate daily (and weren’t around 100 years ago) give off a whole lotta extra heat. All the cars and buildings with glass windows all over the world have sunlight shining into them and the heat gets trapped inside. They are all actually mini “greenhouses”.
Okay, it’s the structure of CO2 and it’s properties? That makes sense. But what’s special about the structure? Please get technical if you can. I want numbers and details if you can give them.
Also it seems to me that water vapor would be a better candidate because water has a high specific heat (it can hold a lot of heat). Maybe global warming is being caused by widepread irrigation. As we increase the surface area that water is spread out on, more of it evaporates an retains heat. Ever notice how it stays hot at night if there’s a lot of humidity? What do you think?

You know, to be quite honest, I am sick of seniors being major priorities in political campaigns. senior housing, seniors incomes, etc etc etc. seniors are not our future, they leave us paying incredible hospital taxes because they feel the need to go in every monday to chat about they’re lasted aliment to their doctor. baby boomers are going to leave us in financial misery because there are so many of them and they will eat up our health care like theres no tomorrow. it’s apparent most have a soft spot for seniors, yes they are old and cute, but why are things like education, sustainable housing, etc (i.e. current, pressing issues) at the focal points of political agendas?

I own a countertop company and we are currently using green products, recycled materials as well as recycled office supplies. We(as a company) would like to start using machinery to recycle our water as this is a huge part of our industry being that everything needs to be done wet. We are also looking into air filters to improve the air quality in the shop. Solar power and air power would be great but as of now we dont own the building. We are a very environmentally concerned company and any info would be fantastic. Thank you all for your help.

How do you like these green building ideas?

I think they should make new building codes that incorporate all these ideas into new building codes
solar panels
wind generators
passive ventilation
rainwater collection
super glass
geothermal heating pumps
solar heating
eaves
compact florescent bulbs
There are building codes that require all buildings to have bathrooms and fire exits. You can no longer have an outhouse and just one door. If buildings have to abide by those standards, then there is no reason why they shouldn’t abide by these in my book. What do you think?
